PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT: ADVISORY GROUP

Purpose

The I-435/I-35/K-10 Interchange Study Advisory Group will focus on providing KDOT with input as it studies potential solutions for safety, congestion and other issues affecting one of the busiest interchanges in Kansas. The group is one of several mechanisms that KDOT will use to gather public opinion on how best to improve and strengthen the region’s transportation network.

Role

As its name implies, the group is advisory to KDOT on matters of interest to the community as they relate to the evaluation of the interchange area. By law, KDOT is responsible for making final decisions about the interchange improvements. For this reason, KDOT is not a member of the group, although representatives will attend and participate in all meetings.

KDOT will utilize the Advisory Group’s input in its own decision-making process. This will happen primarily by KDOT listening to the group’s discussions, responding to its questions and concerns, and then acting on the group’s input and the input of others within technical and other constraints. While the ideal may be for members to reach consensus, it is not required.
