PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT: GOALS & PLANNING ASSUMPTIONS
In order to meet local, regional and statewide needs, KDOT will look to the public for their questions and feedback regarding the interchanges. Input received throughout the study process will augment the technical analysis and help the transportation planners and engineers develop recommendations that will meet the transportation needs of users now and in the future.
Public Involvement Goals
- Key stakeholders and others understand the reasons for conducting the study, its timing and its potential impact.
- All participants understand the technical and financial considerations that will guide the concept study recommendations.
- Technical team members understand clearly the expectations of the community and stakeholders.
- Issues of controversy are identified early, addressed and mitigated in a collaborative and constructive manner.
- Stakeholders and the public know where and how to request project information and give their input.
- The public involvement process is fair, open and responsive to input of the public.
Planning Assumptions
The Public Involvement Plan builds on the following principles:
- The plan will serve as a guiding document for public involvement activities, but is meant to be flexible and allow for adaptation to new and changing needs.
- It will provide timely and accurate information about the project and opportunities for public input.
- Materials for public distribution or exhibition will incorporate clear language and graphics, and be structured such that key information is readily accessible to all members of the public.
