IMPROVEMENT PLAN: WHY IT'S IMPORTANT
Why improvements are important
Improvements in this area will reduce traffic congestion and potential accidents. Traffic is projected to increase 65 percent by 2040; that means areas with congestion today will just get worse if no improvements are made.
- Today, 230,000 vehicles drive through the interchange daily. That number is projected to increase to 380,000 by 2040.
- A four-minute drive through the interchange during the peak PM hour today should take three minutes without congestion. That same drive is expected to take an average of 16 minutes by 2040 if no improvements are made.
- Ten percent of the interchange operates in congested conditions today with that percentage expected to exceed 50 percent by 2040 if no improvements are made.
Additionally, through the first online survey, which asked about driver experience through the interchange area, several problem areas were identified and can be seen on the map. The improvements will address the congestion and weaving/merging concerns identified in the survey.
